Slinging the day away…

Today’s post is dedicated to my Slingbox Pro.  For nearly two years, it lived at my grandfather’s house in Mansfield.   I was able to watch TV from Cleveland & Columbus, including the Buckeyes, Indians and Browns.  Was a great investment while living in Texas.

It was great until grandpa moved last year.  His new place didn’t have the bandwidth for 2 HDTV digital tuners, cable modem, analog TV & the Slingbox tuner.   So I decided to bring it home so I could take advantage of the devices I have at home.

It took most of my Sunday, but I rewired all my inputs on the back of my TV and set-up the Slingbox for my cable, satellite and XM Radio.  For awhile I was having issues trying to get the IR Blasters, which control the devices … turns out the one was positioned wrong.  Wasted about 2 hours on that.  So now I’ll get all my TV channels on my computer and my cell phone.

If you can watch TV while at work or on your cell phone, a Slingbox is a great investment.  Now I’ll be able to listen to the news on my way home from work…instead of drive time radio.

But in the end, it looks like I’ve got everything working.  Just in time to watch the Big Ten Network.  It was added to our Comcastic lineup on Friday.  Of course, they’ve put it at the VERY END of the HD tier, not next to the other sports channels where it belongs.  The only disappointing thing is every classic game that’s been on so far is one where Ohio State loses.  Guess that’s to be expected since Ohio State doesn’t lose that often.  We’ll see the first weekend of the season where the “overflow” games will be offered.

It’s going to be a busy few weeks coming up so who knows how often I’ll be able to blog.  I will let you know when the big announcement comes.

Well I’ll keep this blog entry short, my lovely wife says I’ve been on her computer too long already.  There’s good reason, yesterday I spent most of the afternoon and evening updating the look of our main site www.crundwell.us.    I moved us over to a Wordpress installation so we can manage it better w/o having to code everything inside Dreamweaver. I also re-worked the template for our photo gallery as well, so now everything has a nice shiny new coat of paint on it.

Today, we’re off to Columbus for Red White & Boom.  A tradition we’re happy to start back up once again.  The fireworks in Columbus are spectacular and worth making the trip to see.  You can also watch them online at NBC4i.com.

So not that we’re traveling the rest of the weekend, the relaxing part of my vacation is now over.  We will be taking the laptop on the road this weekend so maybe we’ll get a post in while we’re gone.   It’s my goal to start blogging more often, as long as it doesn’t get me into trouble.

Everyone have a safe and Happy Fourth of July!
