Our 5th Wedding Anniversary- June 29, 2002
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007wanted to write a blog regarding our anniversary, but I had no idea what to say. I can’t believe I’ve been married 5 years already. It seems like yesterday was our wedding day. It is amazing how fast time goes by.But, then again, it doesn’t seem that long ago that I was in college and Jason and I started dating. We started dating on February 17, 1996. That doesn’t seem that long ago either, even though it really was over 10 years ago. When we started dating, Jason was only 19 and I was 20. We were so young and we had so much to learn about life and relationships. We dated all through college. We met at Ashland University in Jason’s dorm. We used to watch the Indians games in 1995, the year the Indians went to the playoffs since we had been alive. It was definately a fun time. We both left Ashland and went to Mansfield University in the fall of 1997. We continued our relationship there until we graduated in December 1999.
Jason got a job straight out of college. He went to work for the NBC station in Toledo as a Production Assistant the week after graduation. I ended up moving back home and working at Wal Mart until I found a job working for the Fox station in Toledo as a graphic designer/production assistant in July 2000. I moved in with Jason and we lived together until we got married.
Jason proposed on April 29, 2001. We went to Niagara Falls Canada with some friends, Shawn and Melissa. They went there as a cover up just so I didn’t know what was going on. Actually, the whole story is pretty funny. We were stopped at customs and they searched the entire car. Jason was so nervous they were going to find the ring, but they didn’t. We went around Niagara Falls that day and we went to dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. After dinner, Jason wanted to go back to the Canadian Falls, but it was so cold and the mist was coming, so he decided not to. We went for a walk over the border and then walked back into Canada. There was this gazebo over nearby and Jason said it would be a good place to take a picture. It was there that Melissa took the camera and Jason got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so shocked, I was speechless. It took me forever to say yes. We then left there and called our families with the happy news.
We got married on June 29, 2002 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Parma, Ohio. I was 26 and Jason had just turned 25 on June 26th. It was a far cry from when we started dating as 19 and 20 year olds. Jason said he wanted to wait until he was 25 to get married and he did by 3 days. Our wedding day was picture perfect. It was a beautiful summer day. We had our reception at the Radisson Hotel (which has changed names now) in Middleburg Heights. We had a great wedding and reception.
We had an interesting honeymoon. We drove many miles across the country. We were gone for 11 days, Some of the places we visited were Mitchell, SD, Badlands National Park, South Dakota, The famous Wall Drug Store in SD, Mount Rushmore National Park, SD, Devil’s Tower, Wyoming, Billings, MTBeartooth Pass, MT/WY, Yellowstone National Park, WY, Jackson Hole, WY, Salida, CO, Las Vegas, NV, Grand Canyon, AZ, Painted Desert, AZ, Alberquerque, NM, Oklahoma City, OK and St. Louis, MO. That is just a sampling. We saw so many interesting places and sites. Half the places I didn’t even take pictures of. I had some of the best food out west. We had Buffalo, Quail and other wild animals. It was just an awesome honeymoon. I think it was almost better than a honeymoon to the Carribean because we were able to see so many places and sites.
After our honeymoon, we went back to our home in Toledo. I also started working for a dentist, Dr. Marion in Toledo. I had ditched the TV business and went into dentistry shortly after we got engaged. We adopted our dog, Casey in February 2003 and in late July, 2004, we moved to Corpus Christi, TX and that is where we are now 5 years later and many miles further from where we started. I don’t think that when we got married either of us imagined we’d be where we are now. I work for a wonderful dentist in Corpus Christi, Dr. Responek after a year of assisting school in Corpus Christi. All I know if the past five years have been great, I can’t imagine what is in store for us in the time ahead.
To answer any questions anyone has, no we don’t have kids right now. We’re not planning on it for another few years. There are a few reasons why. First of all, we’ve decided to wait until we are both in our 30’s to have a family. We both have plenty of time and want to enjoy our married life together for a few years. Our parents waited until they were in their 30’s and I think that is a good choice. I am also not emotionally ready to have a child right now. I cannot imagine having children yet. I have a hard time taking care of a dog. I like coming home from work and not having to worry about taking care of children. I like to have time to myself and to my own. We also would like to take a big vacation such as the Carribean/Europe/Hawaii before we have a family. We’re hoping next year, but we’ll see how it goes with finances. It’s something we won’t be able to do after we have children.
Secondly, Jason and I want to make sure we can provide for our children and we want to be able to do that. Right now, that just wouldn’t be possible. We barely can afford ourselves and our dog. My family provided everything I ever wanted, and we both want that for our children. Jason on the other hand, didn’t and we want to make sure that doesn’t happen. So, waiting is what we are doing. I’ll be sure to let you know when I do become pregnant. I still have a few more years left before I have to start worrying that I am past a certain age. We’ll probably have children before that point anyway. And, if things don’t work out as planned, we’ll adopt. We’ll see what God has in store for us. It’s not our plan, but it’s God’s.
